Is this lean manufacturing consulting?

Operations engineering shares the measurement logic of lean manufacturing but is not tied to a single methodology. INDOLES picks the method from what the floor data shows; sometimes flow rearrangement is enough, sometimes a planning change or fixing the information flow. The aim is shorter lead times, not applying a methodology.

Can efficiency rise without buying new machines?

In most companies there is a clear gap between theoretical and realised capacity, and that gap is gain available without investment. The loss usually sits in waiting, setup and rework rather than machine speed. INDOLES measures precisely for this: if investment is genuinely needed the case is shown in numbers, and if it is not, the money is not spent.

We are e-commerce, not manufacturing. Does this apply?

The same method applies to order preparation, packing, returns and customer communication flows. From a measurement standpoint, packing waiting in a warehouse is no different from a station waiting on a production line. On the e-commerce side INDOLES usually maps the time from order acceptance to dispatch and marks the step that will jam before growth arrives.

How long are you on site, and does it disrupt work?

On-site observation usually lasts one to two weeks and stays out of the way: the INDOLES team watches, measures and asks questions without stepping into the process. The full engagement runs four to six weeks up to the scenario presentation. Nothing stops production at any point; if measurement requires installing anything, it happens between shifts on a plan drawn up with you.

How is the result verified?

Verification comes from comparing before-and-after measurements; the work is not complete until the improvement shows in numbers. INDOLES also leaves a few tracking metrics so you can see whether the gain still holds months later. An improvement that does not last amounts to the same thing as none at all.

What is operations engineering?

Operations engineering is the work of getting more out of the capacity a company already has. The process is drawn from on-site observation, from first contact to delivery; the processing and waiting time of each step is measured, and the step that limits the flow is identified by calculation. New machines or new hires come up only if that measurement shows they are needed.

How is the bottleneck found?

The bottleneck is found by timing, not by argument: the processing time of each step and the waiting between steps are recorded separately. Waiting usually turns out longer than processing, which is why an analysis that looks only at machine speed misleads. Whichever step limits the flow sets the pace of the whole line; improving anywhere else leaves the total time unchanged.

Does this service include an ERP build?

Software selection and installation sit outside this service; the work here is measuring the process, finding the bottleneck and reorganising the flow. Which system gets built in what order is decided under digital transformation, against an ROI projection. The order is deliberate: software laid over an undefined process only makes the same confusion more expensive.

How is one improvement scenario chosen over another?

For each bottleneck, two or three options are laid side by side with their cost, implementation time and expected gain. Options requiring no investment are always assessed first, because the gap between theoretical and actual capacity often closes without spending. The company makes the choice; INDOLES supplies the comparison table and the reasoning.

Who from our team is involved?

On-site observation needs the operators who actually do the work and the shift supervisors; they are the ones who show the gap between the procedure document and the real flow. If measuring equipment has to be installed, the plan is drawn with the planning team and scheduled between shifts. At the team session, reading the flow and keeping the measurement going are passed to the shop-floor and planning teams.

When is operations engineering the wrong choice?

If orders are not coming in, the problem is demand rather than flow, and speeding up the line only enlarges idle capacity. If the expectation is occupational health and safety consulting, quality certification or factory layout engineering, all of those fall outside the scope. Machinery and equipment procurement is not part of it either; INDOLES shows the need with numbers but does not handle the purchase.
